Growing up, I had the privilege of observing my mom and aunt start a pie bakery from a farmer's market stall to a successful brick-and-mortar. Over the years, I spent many hours working the front counter while talking my mom into letting me hand-letter signs, design menus and t-shirts. This early exposure to entrepreneurship gave me a holistic understanding of what it takes to run a small business.
I earned my degree in Interior Design from Kansas State University, followed by valuable experiences at commercial architecture firms. During this time, I honed my skills in transforming initial concepts into fully-realized designs, emphasizing attention to detail and creative problem-solving at every step. This period nurtured my love for collaborative work, teaching me the value of individual project contributions and constructive feedback to illuminate innovative solutions.
While the architecture industry provided essential lessons, I realized it wasn't my long-term fit. Taking a leap into freelancing, I worked alongside Janette Yost of Nous Studio. This collaboration enabled me to expand my skill set, contributing to marketing projects for small retailers and restaurants. I embraced a variety of new responsibilities, from social media management to email marketing, copywriting, and graphic design.
In 2020, my journey led me to October Creative—a studio focused on creating recipe videos for food bloggers and brands. Here, I refined my cinematography and client management skills. My current role defies a concise job title, encompassing cinematography, photography, and studio management. I juggle responsibilities such as training and overseeing staff, managing studio schedules, and directing shoots. Yet, my passion lies in photography and food styling. A standout experience at October Creative was collaborating with co-owner Laura on shoots for Vitamix, where I assumed roles as art director and food/prop stylist. My favorite moments are spent on-set, collaborating with a multi-talented team to produce beautiful work.
